The day for Andrew's departure finally arrived. As a parent it is hard to describe how you feel. If someone were to ask you, there are no words. But we are grateful to have a son who wants to serve a mission and we know he, as well as our family will be blessed because of his service.

We did it! We got everything in one suitcase and a carry on!
We met the Arizona Tempe Mission Presidency at the airport, they were there to pick up 13 new missionaires. It was a comforting thought to know that someone would be in Sao Paulo to greet Andrew as well.

One last family snapshot, then it was time to go through security and board the plane. We were grateful that Elder Patrick Brenes was at the airport and would be flying to Sao Paulo with Andrew. They will meet with other missionaries in Dallas as well.

I know I already talked to you today but looking at these pictures makes me cry. What a good boy you have! He'll be home before you know it!
Patrice they really do come home. At times it seems like the day will never come. I can still remember that empty feeling I had the day Sterling left. It does get better and the random crying does stop. This will be a very exciting time for your family. You will always have p-day to look forward to. Have fun and enjoy every minute it doesn't last forever.
Wow, seeing the airport pictures really brought back memories of when my 3 boys left on missions. LaDawn is right - it really will go fast - especially the 2nd year. Just think, you can already start the countdown to when he comes home - and you can look forward to some fabulous letters and 4 phone calls! Take care, Patrice.
