We Seek After These Things

On Thursday evening we had a song practice with our Young Women to prepare for the New Beginnings program the following week We were singing We Seek After These Things, by Jenny Phillips, the practice went well and as we were finishing, the Young Women's President told us that Megan had told her that she really liked this song and that she was going to sing it by herself. Megan is a Young Woman in our ward that has Down's Syndrome, and we all just love her and her happy attitude. A Laurel, began playing the song on the piano, and Megan began singing, she really couldn't sing a lot of the words, but our Young Women's President sang along softly with her. It didn't take long a for quiet reverence to fill the room, and for a few eyes to begin to fill with tears. Megan finished the song, and the room erupted with applause for her. High fives and hugs followed, as she circled the room and received words of praise from everyone. My daughter who was sitting next to me whispered, wow, we have certainly had our spiritual moment for the night. I was so touched, by the example of a Young Women's President who loves each girl and was more than happy to let Megan sing the song she loved, and by the young women who were so supportive and showed that great love for her as well. The song is based on the 13th Article of Faith, and states, if there is anything that is praiseworthy, virtuous or lovely, we seek after these things...that was certainly evidenced that evening.
