VA,DC,MD Day 7, June 25, 2013

Our hotel was on a very small island, named Solomon's, in the Chesapeake Bay.  We went to the Calvert Marine Museum, it was a pretty neat place.

Petting sting rays - Laura thought that was one particularly slimy

It was kind of amusing how they would swim and get really close to the side and then plunge down and move a bit further away when they got to the area you can stand in to touch them.

The Drum Light House, it has been moved from the tip of the bay to this area.
Dad and Laura, I couldn't manage to get a picture without one of them squinting.
There were a lot of jelly fish in that water.  According to the lady manning the Light House, there are times they are so thick it appears you could walk across the bay on them.

Maryland's oldest working light house.

You can rent the old lighthouse keeper's quarters, for 3 nights it's only $1200, what a bargain!
See the bridge in the background, that is what you have to cross to get onto Solomon's Island, it is only 2 lanes, just has cement barricades keeping you from driving over the edge in your car, on a very narrow 135 foot high bridge. I have to admit the first time we drove over it, I wasn't sure I could drive back over it again.

After a nice day together, we went to dinner with Laura and Steven, played a few hands of UNO, talked for a bit and said our goodbyes.  It was so good to see Laura and now be able to picture where she is at, we were glad we knew she was coming to Arizona a couple of weeks later or goodbye would have been a bit harder on all of us.
