Every year on the first Sunday of December we have a nice dinner, and let the children put their ornament that we had usually picked out for them on the tree. This year we let the kids pick out their own ornament, about a week before this dinner, we went out to dinner then to the Hallmark Store to let them pick them. I think I discovered why we always picked them before - it took a very long time for each of them to decide which one they wanted, and what it meant to them, but it was a lot of fun and just nice spending time with them.
The dinner conisted of the kid's favorites, Andrew's is spaghetti and Laura loves tortellini with alfredo sauce. We also had garlic bread and a salad. It was a nice time together sitting around the table talking, eating and laughing. After, we let the kids place their ornaments on the tree and gave them a challenge to find some way to serve someone in a thoughtful way. It's always a nice way to start the Christmas season!
