We got up EARLY Wednesday morning to get to the airport, our flight left at 6:30 am, on time and we arrived in Richmond, Virginia at about 3:40 pm. We got our rental car, and set out on our adventure. The first place we went to was Cold Harbor Battlefield, from the Civil War, the last battle of General Ulysses S. Grant Overland Campaign. It is said to be one of the bloodiest and most lopsided battles of the war.
A cannon on the battlefield, similar to the ones used during the war.
You can see how the war forever changed the landscape of this area.
The "line" you see is the fortifications that were built up for protection during the battle.
The James River.
After out visit to this battlefield, we headed to Williamsburg where we stayed the night. After a nice dinner we drove around the area to get an idea of where we were at. Williamsburg is not far from Jamestown, the first settlement there or Yorktown where the final battle of the Revolutionary War took place.
